Dear Hershal Walker

Dear Hershal Walker,

I know your in great shape to compete in MMA.  I know your an amazing athlete and one rare breed.  But honestly, I rather you stick to one sport and it would be MMA.  I mean your probably one of the best conditioned athletes in your age range like Couture.  But making an NFL comeback is something I don't want to see you do.  Your not as strong as your young days to play football.  Have you seen guys like Brian Urlacher or Ray Lewis, I feel like you would seriously get hurt playing ball at this age.  I just don't want you to get paralyzed or something bad might happen because those guys don't play.  I really think you would be safer in MMA.

Sean Sherk and Waylon Lowe =Brothers?

Waylon Lowe and Sean Sherk

Could they be related or even brothers.

You be the judge.

ESPN/SHERDOG CONTRIBUTER BLOGGER = Fail

Cmon know he said that Melvin Guillard should be fighting Nik Lentz. That's going down in competition not going up. I thought that was a stupid thing to suggest. His opinion, I know but still Nik Lentz doesn't deserve to be in top 15 lightweights at all. He didn't even deserve the win against Tyson Griffin.

I think Guillard should be fighting at a high level than Evan Dunham now. I would really wish for Guillard vs Pettis, i'm praying for Guida to pull out of the fight. Actually, Melvin Guillard vs Sean Sherk would be nice to see to. But not Lentz.

And the guy also said Pat Barry should fight Matt Mitrione. REALLY? They're teammates, I highly doubt them doing this. But in his article, he didn't even mention that they were teammates maybe not knowing they were team mates. I really don't know what hes thinking, but maybe hes on a bad day haha.

If Paul Daley was in Mark Hominick's Position

You know when Mark Hominick TKO'd George Roop. Roop got back up and tried to congratulate Hominick. He was on wobbly legs and stumbled across the cage. If Paul Daley was in Hominick's position, he'd probably be a dick and sucker punch him like he did Koscheck.

Best Quote of the Night for: UFC Fight For The Troops 2

The best quote of the night goes to........Darmaques Johnson after his win against Mike Guymon.

After Guymon tapped out due to the pressure from the body triangle Johnson had on him. This was said:

"who likes foreplay with no orgasm, i mean i didn't finish, my bad."

I was dying this was too funny.

UFC: Fight For The Troops 2 Recap

Melvin Guillard vs Evan Dunham

Evan Dunham was the favorite but unfortunately, being better on paper does not win you fights.  If you watched it, Guillard was throwing some dam lasers.  Speed and precision, simple as that.  Dunham showed some heart though, he got rocked a couple good times and still didn't give up.  But, Guillard's striking was a little too much for him.  Guillard showed some amazing takedown defense and could still throw some hard shots on one leg, which was pretty dope.

Matt Mitrione vs Tim Hague

First off, I'm glad that Mitrione shaved off the pornstar/rapist mustache, because he was looking to creepy.  But man, he was super mobile.  A big guy like that moving like that, that shows the athleticism he has.  Once again, showcasing his striking from Duke Roufus.  He showed a clean inside leg kick and his power in his strikes.  Straight LEFT to the chin.  That's what he used to beat Hague.  I feel sorry for Hauge because he couldn't show off his cardio and the strength and conditioning program that he worked hard on.

Mark Hominick vs George Roop

All I have to say is "WOW"  I knew Hominick was good but I didn't think he was that good.  Everything he threw was precise.  Stunning Roop numerous times and props to the ref for stopping it.  Great call.

Pat Barry vs Joey Beltran

I was excited to see this one.  Beltran has so much heart and can take a hit to the dome.  This guy ate a couple headkicks and a vicious leg kicks.  His legs were dying after 2 kicks from Barry.  Barry basically picked Beltran apart with leg kicks and occasionally throwing his hands when Beltran was expecting kicks.  I wanted to see Barry finish it with leg kicks because the headkicks were not putting Beltran to sleep.  I wish he threw it a little more, I mean you could see Beltran limping by the 1st round, but he tried putting him to sleep and that didn't work.

Cole Miller vs Matt Wiman

I was surprised at this fight, I honestly thought that this would be a war.  It turned out to be a one-sided beating for Miller.  Miller took a page out of the Brock Lesnar fight for survival book.  He was basically in survival mode the whole fight.  I've never even seen Wiman fight like that but man the pace he set was sick.  Never ending ground and pound, even using the Sakuraba double chops.  I was dying because I haven't seen that since watching Pride Fighting Championship.  Wiman was relentless and was just too much for Miller.

Cody McKenize vs Yves Edward

This was one of the fights that were showed live stream on facebook.  But man this fight was crazy and these guys showed some heart.  Cody was getting LIT up by Edwards in the stand up section of the part.  But McKenzie was taking the shots and still trying to shoot and get the fight to the ground.  By the second round, he did by getting Edward's back and dragging him down.  When that happened I though he had the fight, he also used some weird grappling techniques but he was dominating his opponent on the ground.  Miraculously, Edwards got on top and mounted McKenzie.  McKenzie gave up his back and Edwards capitalized and choked him out.  McKenzie showed some balls by not taping or he just wanted to take a nap.  Sad to see Cody lose but I was expecting Yves to win.

WHATS NEXT:

Guillard : I'd love to see him fight a top 10 fighter, I'm hoping Guida pulls out of his Pettis fight, so Guillard can fill in.

Dunham: Rest after that beating, but I want him still to fight Florian.

Mitrione: Meathead wanted a step up in competition, I'd give him Cheick Kongo

Hominick: DUH ALDO

Gi vs No Gi ?

So today, I was at the gym training Brazillian Jiu Jitsu.  We use a gi in that class and did the usual.  Worked on variations of chaining submissions together.  For instance, we worked on transitioning from a triangle, right into an armbar and back to a triangle.  Stuff like that.  Then the usual 30min-45min rolling.

A muay thai student was watching us and asked me after whats the difference from training with a gi and without a gi. And which was easier.

As I was telling him, its hard both ways.  I did submission wrestling and no gi grappling at first, so when I transitioned to traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu I had a hard time adapting at first.  I've rolled and trained with guys that said the same thing but vice versa.  Adaptation is huge part between rolling with a gi and without one.  Personally, for me at first, not knowing that the gi was used as a weapon and tool, was a very hard concept for me to grasp.  I remember getting choked out with my own collar.  If you've never rolled with a gi, you'll learn that the gi is your biggest weapon and can be used in so many ways.

I had a hard time because training without a gi, your not used to having to grab the gi for handles and grips.  I told the guy they bring different aspects and it changes your approach coming gi to no gi or vice versa.  Honestly, I don't think there is an easier or harder rolling with gi or no gi.  They both bring different aspects and different problems for you to figure out.   But, I feel like when you train with a gi, I honestly think you need more of technique is put to play.  Without a gi, you can use strength and athleticism to help you a great deal when you grapple.  Sweat plays a big part too when you roll without a gi.  But when your in a gi, sometimes you just can't get out of things when someones holding your collar or gi and you can't just slide out positions because sweat doesn't really affect the gi.

At the end of the conversation, I told the guy, you really got to try it for yourself, but what do you guys think?

UFC: Fight For The Troops Weigh Ins

http://mmaaddicts.com/dann/ufc-fight-night-23/damarques-johnson-mike-guymon.JPGFUNNY SHIT

They had some pretty funny shit on this weigh ins.  I thought this was the best one.  Damarques Johnson vs Mike Guymon.
http://mmaaddicts.com/dann/ufc-fight-night-23/cody-mckenzie-yves-edwards.JPG

This one was pretty funny if you watched it.  Usually when people are bo

ut to weigh in, they normally starve and don't intake anything until after the weight ins.  But not Yves Edward, he wasn't even tripping, he was eaten some bbq potato chips.  He even let Cody get some before the staredown.  Pretty funny shit today.

Chael Sonnen Black Belt

http://mmajunkie.com/dyn/images/fighters/chael-sonnen-6.jpg

On January 3, 2011, the man named Chael Sonnen was awarded a black belt in Money Laundering.

He also was spotted at McDonald's also trying to get a black belt under the Nogueria brothers. Unfortunately, in his happy meal he didn't get the black belt. Good Luck Chael maybe next time.

Why is Ryan Bader Not Hyped?

http://mmavalor.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/ryan-bader.jpg

I really don't understand why Ryan Bader is not hyped.
  • Hes undefeated in his professional MMA career.
  • Hes a former D1 wrestler
  • Won the Ultimate Fighter
  • The win that I think anchors his career is against Little Nog and Keith Jardine.
He may not be as flashy as others but I feel like he doesn't get enough recognition.  With all the hype surrounding Jon Jones ( no disrespect I love watching Jones, but I feel like the only guy really beat that was the most credible was Matt Hamil.  Even though he lost but we all know he won that fight because those illegal elbows aren't the ones that beat Hamil.  I feel like Jones never really fought anyone credible, like an top tier fighter.)  Bader beating Lil Nog was impressive to me because Little Nog is a great striker and better grappler.  Lil Nog is a top guy.  But no hype for Bader?  It all went to Jones because he throws some crazy strikes.

CMON BADER HIS NICKNAME IS DARTH......THAT SHITS DOPE

Give him some credit, why does everyone think Jones is just going to run through him, his name is Darth dammit haha

Why Mayhem vs Diaz Did Not ComeThrough?

A

According to Nick Diaz, the reason why his speculated fight against Mayhem Miller was not due to the weight issue, as everybody assumed.  The issue was getting paid for moving up in weight.  He said he was willing if the pay was right.  I mean having to gain muscle mass for a fight then dropping down, is easier said than done.  So I kind of agree he should have been paid more instead of getting the regular.  The fight with Miller would have nothing to do with him except settling the beef he had with Miller.  So that fight would have been a fan attraction fight.  Cmon Scott Coker just pay him a little more than usual just so that fight would happen.  The fans want to see it.

But on the other hand, this also maybe an excuse for Diaz.  Who knows?  Coker says one thing, Diaz says another.  We'll never know.

Kimbo Slice Quits Boxing!! Make Money Somewhere Else?

Kim

Reports have said that former street fighter/MMA fighter, Kimbo Slice will quit his aspiration to pursue a career in boxing.  After his loss to Matt Mitrione and getting cut from the UFC stable, he decided he would put mixed martial arts in the backseat and pursue boxing.  According to his fight promoter, Jared Shaw, he has also put his boxing career to rest.  Shaw said that due to injuries and the intensity of the work that was put into boxing, Kimbo could not do it.

It was said that after Kimbo had finished filming the Scorpion King, Kimbo had lost interest in boxing.  But wait.....Kimbo will go to pro wrestling.  He's going to head to Japan and entering the 8 man tournament on February 5th.

For all the Kimbo Slice haters, why hate the guy.  If you watched The Ultimate Fighter or seen interviews, Kimbo's a humble and nice guy.  If you didn't like him because he got so much hype, its not his fault.  Blame the internet and all the people who hyped him up.  He came up making little money to six figures.  Aye, he makes that money and that's all that matters.  At least he's still going to be in entertainment, lol even though its not real.  Go Team Kimbo LOL

UFC: Fight For The Troops 2 Main Card

This Saturday, January 22 the UFC will hold their second Fight For The Troops event. It will be held in Fort Hood, Texas.  This is how I think the main card will go.

Main card

(Each name above has a Wikipedia link)

Evan Dunham vs Melvin Guillard

Evan Dunham was supposed to be fighting Kenny Florian for the main event but due to an injury to Florian, therefore Melvin Guillard, (who was supposed to fight Yves Edward on the prelim card) will step in for Florian.

Dunham coming off a loss against former UFC lightweight champ Sean Sherk, (in which many, including myself thought he won) will try to rebound from that judging error.  Guillard coming off a win against Jeremy Stephens will try to keep on the winning streak.  He's coming into the fight with a 3 fight win streak.

Dunham the Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt will have a HUGE advantage on the ground.  He has a really good submission skills and I think will be looking to put Guillard on his back and put Guillard into his weakest aspect.  But, Dunham has shown he can use his striking effectively and efficiently.

Guillard's change to train at Greg Jackson's camp, has been a good career move.  He's become a more disciplined fighter.  A lot of people have been saying he played it safe his last fight against Jeremy Stephens.  It may not be as exciting by not seeing him brawl, but why would he want to take a chance at getting knocked out and lose.  If you lose you get cut from the organization.  Why would he risk that, I think a wins a win.  Guillard will try to keep this standing and use his wrestling to keep this fight standing.

I like Dunham's advantage in the ground but he's going to be facing a talented striker.  With Guillard training at Greg Jackson, hes been becoming more well rounded and better at his weakest areas.  I have Guillard taking a decision.  Chin test for Dunham.

Matt Mitrione vs Tim Hauge

Despite Mitrione having only 3 professional fights, the Duke Roufus product has shown a lot of promise in this sport.  He loves to strike and I think has pretty good ability on keeping distance.  Honestly, I think that Mitrione will try to keep it standing against Hauge.

In all honesty, I haven't seen Tim Hauge fight to much except when he got knocked out by Todd Duffee and lost a decision to Joey Beltran.  Can't say much but he did submit Pat Berry, in which he was getting beat down but showed some heart in the fight and came back with the win.  I know that he does have a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu jitsu.

Its a toss up for me, but I'm going with Mitrione only because I think his striking is more crisp and training with Duke Roufus means that his stand up is going to be better.  Tossing a coin and it lands on Mitrione.

Mark Hominick vs George Roop

This is my fight of the night candidate.  Mark Hominick has one of the best technical strikers in the featherweight division.  He has pin point accuracy and a vicious liver shot.  Mark Hominick is well versed on the ground too.  He also has a little more incentive than Roop, if he wins he is told that he will be getting a title shot against the featherweight champ Jose Aldo.  Hominick also has A TON of momentum behind, having a 4 fight win streak.

George Roop is a scrapper though.  He comes in and fights.  He just gave the best performance of his career by knocking out the Korean Zombie, a guy in which nobody has finished.  That highlight reel knockout had him up there with knockout of the year candidates.

SO don't count Roop out of this.  That might happen.  But he's primarily known as a striker so this should be a stand up war.
I'm going with Mark Hominick with this one.  He brings more technique and a more refined striking game than Roop.  Second Round TKO , hopefully by body shot that crumbles Roop.  Plus we get to see Aldo get to fight a very good striker.

Pat Barry vs Joey Beltran

Even though Pat Barry lost his last fight against Mirko Cro Cop, he showed hes one of the best strikers in MMA period.  He knocked Cro Cop down in the first round of their fight a couple times.  If he sustained the brilliance he showed in the first round, he could have won the fight.

But the downside with Barry is that he had surgery on his hand after the Cro Cop fight and nobody will know how that hand will hold up during his fight.

Beltran is also a striker.  He is also coming off a hard fought decision against Matt Mitrione, months prior.  Both have a ton of power in their strikes and can end fights instantaneously.  This is going to be a stand up war.  I want to say Beltran by decision but I feel like Barry can finish in the first round.  I'm going to call a KO for Barry.

Cole Miller vs Matt Wiman

This is going to be a tough one to call.  Wiman is a very tough and durable guy but I love the fact that Miller always wants to finish the fights.  Miller looked a lot better in his stand up game against Ross Pearson and his ground game is always sharp.  I feel like Miller has a huge on the ground , but Wiman is not someone you should count out.  I mean he comes into the cage and fights each time and gets into some great battles.  I mean look he wracked up 3 fight of the night awards against Thiago Tavares (win), Jim Miller (loss), and Sam Stout (loss).

I'm going with Miller finishing by submission in the 3rd round.

Alistar Overeem LOL

So today I was on a forum and was trolling around and I wanted to put some fun in the forum.  I seen Alistar Overeem's name and I wanted to make a thread of him.

Honestly, in my opinion, I always thought Alistar Overeem has been juicing or taking some substances that makes him super huge.

http://cdn.cagepotato.com/www/sites/default/files/alistair_overeem_k-1.jpg
So I asked this dumb question on the forum asking "  Where do you think Alistar Overeem gets his roids?"

This one guy says that he gets it from the horse stables.

Another guy says that he gets it from eating drugged horse meat.

Another guy actually replys with a picture of this.

I was dying cuz of the picture of the horse.

Shinya Aoki Thinking of quitting MMA

So after this beating Shinya Aoki took from K-1 Kickboxer Yuichirou Nagashima, sources say that Shinya Aoki is contemplating to quit MMA.  The fight took place at the Dynamite New Years fight card.  It was a special exhibition match with a hybrid mixed rules.  The first round was a kickboxing round.  The second round would be an MMA rule round.

So during the first round Shinya being a girl that he is, did not want to strike with the K-1 vet Nagashima.  Shinya threw flying kicks and drop kicks, so that he would intentionally fall on his ass.  Since it was K-1 rules the referee would tell him to get up.  Shinya would take his time getting up, which meant he would eat up the clock.  Letting the clocks time run down was such a wimp thing to do.

As soon as the 2nd round (MMA round) Shinya shoots for a double leg takedown in less than 5-10 secs.  Nagashima hits him with a flying knee and rains down hammerfists against the unconscious Aoki.  Finally, someone put this cocky basturd to sleep.

Its funny right?

Reports say that Shinya Aoki even closed down his twitter account and made a private one because of all the Nagashima fans harassing him.  It said he wants to focus on his teaching duties instead of MMA.  After getting embarrassed like that, I would lay low especially because he's been so cocky.

What I think of the Randy Couture vs Lyoto Machida Match

Honestly, I think that the UFC did not need to put this match on.  I know the UFC is probably doing this to generate money, due to Couture being a fan favorite and a great Pay Per View Draw.

There's really nothing for Machida to gain from this but he has the most to lose from it.  Losing to Couture may mean that he gets cut.  If not, he goes down the light heavyweight ladder.  Winning this fight doesn't really put him to top contention or anywhere near it.  Beating Couture maybe an accomplishment only for Lyoto.

Couture is not a top light heavyweight despite having a 3 fight winning streak.  He's beaten Brandon Vera, Mark Coleman, and James Toney.  None of them having a significance in the division.  Especially defeating Toney, which was kind of like a sideshow fight.  Couture has the most to gain from this, if he wins, he can continue fighting top tier fighters if he chooses to.  He may retire, but who knows.  Losing does not do anything for him since, hes getting older and older, people will not be surprised if he did.

Bottom line:  Its a great way to draw more attention to the card and build the fight card up.

UFC 129 Headlining Bouts

UFC 129 will be taking place at the Rogers Centre at Toronto, Ontario, Canada on April 11, 2011.  As of today, the only official fights are the headliners, Canada's own George St. Pierre against his challenger, Cesar Gracie product Jake Shields.  The other headlining fight will put two former light heavyweight champions against each other.  Randy Couture will be facing Lyoto Machida.

The welterweight champion George St. Pierre will finally facing Jake Shields.  Shields has been fighting in many other places besides the UFC, now he will be pitted against his toughest test to date.  Jake Shield's base has been in his ground game and will probably try to get the champion to his greatest strength.  The concern I have with Jake Shields, is if he'll pull off the same stupid stunt he did against Martin Kampman.  Shields had trouble making weight and it showed during the fight because his cardio looked really bad, gassing out.

George St. Pierre, coming off a dominating performance against his nemesis Josh Koscheck.  GSP used his stand up to neutralize Koscheck, by jabbing his eye shut.  Thus, making Koscheck basically fighting with one eye for 3-4 rounds.  As in his last fight, it took place in his home country of Canada.  It was sold out very fast.  So, I'm expecting that this will sell out quick too.

Randy Couture finally got what he asked for, he'll finally be facing Lyoto Machida.  The 47 year old Couture will take a shot at the karate master.

Also, if featherweight Mark Hominick gets past George Roop at UFC Fight for the Troops, he will be getting a title shot against Brazilian striker Jose Aldo.  There has been speculations that if that fight were to take place, it would happen at UFC 129.

The Ultimate Fighter Season 13 Coaches

NEWS just came in that Heavyweights Brock Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos are going to be coaching the Ultimate Fighter. The season will consist of a welterweight only season. This will seem to be an exciting season knowing that Brock Lesnar is very vocal and his personality may not be liked by others.

I'm honestly expecting him to add some WWE flavor into the show with the showman ship. He loves the camera. It's just in his nature to entertain. On the other hand, Junior Dos Santos seems like he will be the chill one and don't forgot we'll likely have subtitles for him speaking. So all the entertainment should be coming from the one man show named Lesnar.

By taking the coaching job for the season, it will cause them to battle it out for a June showdown for the interim heavyweight title. Since, UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez will be out for some time, Brock and Junior will square off for the title.

By reading on forums and on the internet, people are already counting Brock out of the fight. But lets face it, when you lose, a person can do two things : come back stronger or not. Honestly, I think Brock is a competitor, I think he will learn from his loss, just like when he lost to Frank Mir. We'll just see when it comes down to fight night.

What I learned from the lastest MMA Hourshosted by Ariel Helwani

So today, it was probably longest edition of the MMA hour with Ariel Helwani. It took around 3 hours and consisted of 9 guests. There really wasn't any breaking news from it but learned a little more detail into the fights and things that are going on.

WHAT I LEARNED:

Josh Barrnett actually contemplated to stop competing in mixed martial arts. And he didn't like what Dana White says. I guess you can say they're not close friends.

Fabricio Werdum hates cocky people. He said Overeem and Barnett were a little to cocky.

Scott Coker gave a little insight into the Strikeforce tournament. It will consist of 8 heavyweights. The details about the championship bouts are not final and he said it will be announced soon.

Hershal Walker wants a MMA union. Too bad this isn't football, its most likely not going to happen.

Anthony Pettis will be getting a fight instead of waiting for the title shot. Hopefully, he wins or he'll pull off a Josh Grispi 2.0.

The best part was the Mitrione Minute segment. Due to technical difficulties, Mitrione could not get on the computer and had to call in. He didn't even have material and was funny to listen to improvise.

THATS WHAT I LEARNED TODAY.

Fights Targeted for UFC 130

A couple fights are being targeted for UFC 130. It's not official but here are some of the fights that are targeted to be on the May 28th card.

Photobucket

Rampage Jackson vs Thiago Silva

The fight will most likely be that the winner will be catapulted into the light heavyweight contention. Thiago just came off a one year layoff to rehabilitate his injuries. Coming off UFC 125, Thiago dominated and smashed his opponent Brandon Vera.

Rampage also won his last fight against Lyoto Machida. Therefore the winner will be taking a huge step up in the light heavyweight ladder.

Frank Mir vs Roy Nelson

This match looks to be a very exciting match up in my opinion especially, both being Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belts.

Frank Mir's job will also be on the chopping block, after Dana White ripped his performance against Mirko Cro Cop.

I'm guessing the whole contract issue with Roy Nelson is resolved. He just came off a gutsy performance against Junior Dos Santos. He took a massive beating and showed a ton of heart.

Also, there is a rumor that Frankie Edgar and Grey Maynard will have their rematch on this card. Its only a rumor, besides Frankie needs to be medically cleared due to the fracture in his nose.
